Trapping season has begun! Ricky and Sheldon were busy all last weekend setting traps all over the place. Every morning at 6am the boys have gone to check the traps before Ricky went to work and then they have also reset them in the evenings after supper. Sheldon has really been enjoying being his "trapping buddy" and is learning alot about the sport. In fact, one thing he has asked for Christmas is a new trap!
So far they have caught 22 coons, 1 coyote, and 1 bobcat!
Setting a trap
Sheldon watching closely and playing with his pistol
1st coyote of the season
bobcat on far left...15 coons (the rest haven't been skinned yet)

Is it painful for the animals or do they die quickly? I am a softie. Summer
They don't seem to be in any pain when we find them in the traps. They die quickly after they're shot...no suffering at all. ;o)
We have coons too... and one heck of a good huntin' dog. He likes to go with David, my farm hand, and David shoots 'em down and then Tigger shakes the life outta 'em! Then David takes the coon home for dinner. Blah! What do you do with 15 coons, a coyote and a bobcat?
Okay, I guess I am a city girl. What do you do after you catch them?? How long is trapping season? Why is it only a certain time of year? Sorry for the questions...just curious.
Looks like you guys have your hands full out there.
After we trap them we skin them then sell the fur. We have trapping season because the fur needs to be in its prime...typically during the winter.
