Jingle Bell Run

Like the "Turkey Trot" right before Thanksgiving, there was the "Jingle Bell Run" this morning. I always enjoy watching Kalyn and Sheldon run and just being with them during the day when I can. It was pretty chilly when Sheldon's class came outside for their run. Most of the 1st graders came out bundled up with bells around their neck ready to go! Sheldon is such a good runner and really pushes himself even when he is tired. He would stop to walk for a little bit, but would keep looking back to make sure nobody was coming to pass him up. When someone was coming behind him he would start running again...ha! He stayed in 4th place right until then last 100 yards and sprinted to the finish line into 3rd place. He was proud!

Kalyn's class came out shortly before 11 and it had really warmed up outside by then. Kalyn was NOT excited about having to do this run at all! She didn't do as well as I KNOW she can...she was the typical girl staying back to run with her friends instead of being competitive. When Kalyn ran past me I signed to her that she needed to focus on running for herself and not worry about her friends...and she did! She passed many of her friends and came in 22nd place which was much better than being close to last. I wonder how she would have done if she had run the same way from the very start. I've got to teach her how to become competitive...ha!!! :o) I was proud of her regardless and thoroughly enjoyed watching her run too.
