~Country Livin'~: Colorado Vacation Day 8...Independence Day

Happy 4th of July!! This day was so LONG!!!! We left Amarillo around 9ish and started driving towards Lexington. We were all pretty tired and just ready to be done with all the driving, especially through West Texas! Ricky and I took turns this time because we both had a hard time staying awake for long periods of time. If you are not used to the landscape in West Texas, it can get pretty boring after awhile. It is just so flat and not much to look at all. We got real tired of seeing all those wind turbines over and over as far as the eye could see. After eating lunch in Abilene we started to feel like we were actually getting closer as the landscape started to change the further we drove which was very comforting and welcoming to us. As we drove, Kalyn and Sheldon started asking about seeing some fireworks and even though we were SO ready to get home, we decided that when we got to Lexington we would just wait around until the firework show. Ricky and I knew that if we went home first we probably would not turn around and go back to town! Thank you Ricky for being such a good sport...we love you!!

Kalyn and Sheldon enjoyed being able to play at the playground at the park while we waited...Kalyn even saw a few of her good friends from school. One in particular, Delaney, hung out with us and we all had fun when the show started. If you remember in my previous posts about the firework show in Lexington, you will remember me saying how much I love the way the community comes together and just watch the show from our cars/trucks etc...so fun!!! I am so happy we live in Lexington and have so many good friends here. As tired as we were when we got home, I was glad we stayed for the show because it made Kalyn and Sheldon happy and it also was the perfect ending to our family vacation....it was spectacular! Now where to go next summer?????? :o)
