What a fun day!! For those of you who are aware about the couple from our church who were killed in the Dickens plane crash, this event was a special one. Dan Jenkins, who was one of our elders, was very involved with the youth and sponsored many activities for us at his ranch throughout the year. If you remember my post back in October about Spook Trail, this is the man who started it all. All of us decided to continue with his yearly "Dan's Death Hike and Hillbilly Olympics" even though he wasn't with us. Dan's son, Jason, was involved and brought the youth from his church in Brenham to join us. We all had a great time! The hike started early this afternoon at Dan's place...with me being pregnant we decided we would join the group later in the afternoon. Ricky and I got out there late this afternoon and just visited with several friends while we waited for the hikers to show up. Once the gang arrived, they started the olympics which was lots of fun to watch. The kids got into teams of two and did various competitions...archery, rifle shooting, canoeing, roping, throwing horseshoes, etc. Kalyn and Sheldon would have loved it, but were with their dad this weekend...maybe next year!! Anyway, after the games were over we had hotdogs for supper then a short devo led by my wonderful husband who did an awesome job. He talked about how our time on earth is nothing compared to the eternity we will spend in heaven with our God...he used a long string to demonstrate this concept which was really awesome. I am so proud of him! To conclude the evening, awards were given for the winner of each event. The kids and adults all had a great time of fellowship and I know Dan and Dorothy were smiling upon us today...we miss them terribly!
